Fishing in Digimon World is probably the most relaxing (and addictive?) thing you can do. For one, you can "trade" very common Food Items (such as Meat or Digimushroom) for better ones - and some Fishes are particularly useful (e.g. Digiseabass). What's more, time doesn't actually pass while you're Fishing! So you've got no pressures about taking care of your Digimon or worrying about him fading away.
But first of all, in order to be able to Fish you need to get yourself a Fishing Rod, of course. There are two Fishing Rods in the game: the Old Rod and the Amazing Rod. The difference between the two is a pretty big one: the latter one has a longer range and greater flexibility (i.e. it can withstand the pull of the Fishes a lot better, so the line will be harder to break).
How to get the Fishing Rods
- You'll find the Old Rod at Thrash Mountain in the screen with the Sukamon. It's pretty hard to miss as it is obviously laying there visibly on the ground, plus one of the Sukamon will even point it out at you.
- As for the Amazing Rod, you'll get it from ShogunGekmon at Volume Villa by "trading" 300 Merit Points for it.
WARNING! If you get the Amazing Rod first and the Old Rod second, then (although you'll have both Rods) when you go Fish you'll be stuck with Old Rod forever. So you must get the Old Rod first. It's rare that somebody gets Amazing Rod first anyways, but just in case!

Fishes and Baits
As you may already know, there are 34 Food Items in total (including the 6 Fishes), and you can use all of these (except Steak) as bait; however, not all Fishes like the same bait. So here's each Fish's bait "compatibility".
Legend:
<3 means they like the bait.
X means they don't like the bait.
*LOVE!* next to <3 means it is their favorite bait.

Useful Tips & Notes about Fishing
- Digianchovy, Digisnapper, Digitrout and Black Trout all take the bait the same way: one bite and they are hooked.
- Digiseabass pecks twice or thrice before you can hook them.
- Digitrout, Black Trout, Digicatfish and Diseabass have 1 particular Item they just *LOVE!*. You can easily notice this because when you release the line they are already after the bait (whilst the bait is in the air!); and when you reel it back, they follow! You can use this to your advantage: bring them closer to the shore and fish them on the spot!
- Remember you can Fish by reeling back smoothly (holding down X) and pulling back by "jerking" (tapping X). You should use both techniques interchangeably!
- You cannot use Steak as bait (it just wont show when you choose the Fishing option in the Menu Screen).
- Don'f forget that when a Fish steals your bait you have a small chance of reeling back a stuck Item along the way! (Stuck Items may be Sm. Recoveries, MP Floppies, Various or a rare Coral Charm!!)

The Lake Guardian & HOW to Fish Him
> Use nothing more than just Meat as bait.
> Cast the line right between the rusted bucket and the shadow of the twisted metal pole.
> Seadramon will peck twice or thrice, so don't hit X too soon!
> Once he's hooked, if there's too much tension in the line, let go.
> If there's too little tension in the line, start tapping and holding X.
> Don't fret! Have patience.
One you fish Seadramon, you can either (1) ask him to be friends, (2) ask him to teach you a Technique, or (3) ask him for an Item.
If you befriend him, he will give you a Blue Flute, take you to Beetle Land and join the City (you can later use the Blue Flute to call him on the shore to take you to Beetle Land anytime).
The Techniques Seadramon can teach you are:
Aqua Magic, Winter Blast and Giga Freeze - in that order. Once you learned them (or if you already knew them) then he'll just say there's no more he can teach you.
And the Item he will give you is Water Bottle (you can get many Water Bottles this way).
Remember you can fish Seadramon as many times as you like.
